The 7th Year
It’s unimaginable how quickly time flies. It has been six years, yet it still feels like yesterday — the memorial of that unforgettable day in July 2020.
I was supposed to post a blog on that day, but for reasons I still don’t understand, my post couldn’t get through. This one may be late, but I feel the need to share with the public how the day unfolded.
First, a clear explanation about the “6th year” vs “7th year” confusion
(This is for both Japanese and international readers, because both sides have been confused.)
Haruma passed away on 18 July 2020.
• For international viewers (Western counting)
We simply count the number of full years that have passed.
From 2020 to 2026 is exactly six years.
So many people naturally say “the 6th anniversary” or “six years later.”
This is the normal way of counting in most countries outside Japan.
• For Japanese viewers (Buddhist nenki / 回忌 counting)
In traditional Japanese Buddhist memorials, the year of death itself is counted as the first year.
Therefore:
• 2021 (1 year later) = 一周忌 (isshūki)
• 2022 (2 years later) = 三回忌 (sankaiki)
• 2026 (6 years later) = 七回忌 (shichikaiki) — the 7th-year memorial
This is why official messages in Japan (including Amuse’s post) correctly call it the 七回忌 / 7th year.
Both ways of speaking are correct — they just use different systems.
International fans say “6th year” because six years have passed.
Japanese people say “7th year” because of the traditional inclusive counting.
There is no mistake on either side; it is simply a cultural difference in how the years are numbered.
How Justice for Miura Haruma commemorated that important day
On July 17th I posted a video on YouTube titled “Tears on the 7th Year, in the Tombstone of Privacy.” It was also cross-posted on X and Facebook.
On the 17th we had planned to stand in front of the Amuse building in Aoyama, but my fellow demonstrators advised against it for safety reasons. The gathering was cancelled. It was devastating. I fully understand their concerns — the same thing happened last year when a scheduled demonstration was also called off. Still, it left me deeply disappointed.
I am grateful, however, that a number of media outlets released articles for Haruma’s memorial. Many personalities and people who knew and respected him posted on X and Instagram. It proves once again how many lives Haruma touched.
Amuse itself posted a message expressing gratitude to the fans who continue to support Haruma. Yet I noticed that none of the Amuse talents posted anything about him. Is it fair to read this as “silence”? I can only think that if they are not being held back or controlled, then they simply do not care. It is a clear display of something the public should notice.
At Tsukiji Hongwanji, fans still went to pay their respects, even though Haruma’s name is nowhere to be found. I cannot comprehend why people simply accept what they are told, without knowing the facts — because they are not listening, not seeing, and therefore not questioning. It is sad, and it feels like a disrespect to the dead, that his name is written nowhere for people to pay respects.
As for Haruma’s mother… I have no idea how she spent this 7th year (according to the Buddhist calendar). But she must surely be grieving somewhere.
To us, the fans still fighting for Haruma’s truth, another year has passed. It is unbelievable that it still feels like yesterday… six long years… and yet we keep fighting.

Justice for Miura Haruma
7月17日、私はYouTubeに「Tears on the 7th Year, in the Tombstone of Privacy」という動画を投稿しました。
